IPL Photofacial™ and Laser Genesis Skin Therapy

Like the Titan Procedure™ , both IPL Photofacial™ and Laser Genesis skin procedures work by stimulating deeper tissues of the skin with concentrated light. However, each of these procedures works differently, and help to address a different skin condition. Some patients may seek one form of treatment, while others may find that a combination of two or even all three (laser genesis/ IPL Photofacial™/ Titan) will help them realize their goals. Read about these procedures below and then contact our office to find out which would be most beneficial for you.

IPL Photofacial™Treatment
IPL Photofacial is an ideal treatment for skin care concerns ranging from redness, light acne scars and rosacea to broken capillaries and hyper pigmentation. IPL Photofacial involves a non-ablative laser that has been carefully calibrated to seek out specific pigments in the skin – redness, darker discolored patches or dark spots from acne scarring. The actual IPL Photofacial procedure feels like the mild snapping of rubber bands against the skin’s surface. With each snap, the IPL Photofacial penetrates deep below the skin’s surface to treat the issues at the source. For successful elimination of redness, sun spots and old acne scars, a patient will likely require multiple IPL Photofacial treatments. The Photofacial can truly create a marked difference in the patient’s skin over time, since the skin continues to improve for weeks after the actual IPL treatment.
Immediately following an IPL Photofacial, a patient is free to resume his or her daily activities. Each IPL Photofacial treatment is conveniently quick and takes only about fifteen to twenty minutes from start to finish. For this reason, many patients seamlessly integrate their IPL Photofacial into their lives by getting treatments during their lunch hour. A brief period of facial redness is the most common side effect of the IPL Photofacial, although this can easily be covered up with liquid foundation, powder or a concealer until the redness subsides, usually within an hour or so. The Renaissance Laser and Vein Clinic is proud to offer our patients the IPL Photofacial procedure in our Los Angeles based offices.

In Southern California, the constant exposure to the sun produces severe skin damage. As we get older, some of that damage is manifested by irregular or blotchy pigmentation spots, called solar lentigenes, which can occur on face, arms, hands, shoulders, and chest. These spots detract from beauty as they interfere with the clarity of skin color.

To combat this, our Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) system uses the 600 nm wave length and specifically targets this superficial pigment in the epidermis. By using a wavelength spectrum with strong melanin absorption and weak hemoglobin absorption, much lower fluence (power) is needed for effective treatment. Pulses are controlled by a closed-loop power control that regulates every pulse for consistent, safe results. A standard pulsed light system, in contrast, uses a broad spectrum and requires much higher fluences for similar outcomes since a large portion of the light is not effective in the treatment.

Two to four treatments are needed for optimum results. Some discoloration may be seen in the area immediately following the treatment. Within one to three weeks the lesion gradually flakes off.

IPL Treatments take only a few minutes and are usually quite painless. The sensation of a mild brief pinching sensation is sometimes felt.

The best results are obtained when Intense Pulsed Light treatment is combined with Laser Genesis and Titan™ in what is called the 3D Skin Rejuvenation approach. This is the new gold standard for skin rejuvenation and tightening.

No program is complete without good products including 4% hydroquinone, a chemical that blocks the pigment uptake and manufacture by the cells. We offer a full line of skin care products to help complement and enhance the results of your laser treatment. For long-term benefit, any treatment should always be combined with an effective sunscreen. We offer several choices of different sunscreens that are specifically designed to protect your skin above and beyond over the counter sunscreens. Laser Genesis Skin Rejuvenation

What kind of improvements can you expect in your skin with Laser Genesis Skin Rejuvenation?
Over the course of four to six treatments, Laser Genesis therapy can help restore your skin’s youthful glow and appearance by smoothing out uneven texture caused by aging, sun damage, or scars. You will see a reduction in pore size, reduction of minor imperfections, and an overall healthier complexion. The individual treatment results are subtle, but the overall effect of multiple treatments can be quite dramatic. The Laser Genesis procedure utilizes laser technology to safely, discreetly, and effectively treat uneven skin texture, scars, large pores, and diffuse skin redness. It is a comfortable, non-ablative, and non-invasive form of skin therapy. There are no unwanted side effects such as bruising or excessive skin irritation. Your treatment can be performed in a relaxed, comfortable manner without the use of general or local anesthesia.

What does the procedure feel like?

Patients often describe the treatment as relaxing and therapeutic. You will experience a gentle warming of your skin’s surface during the procedure as the laser hand piece is moved back and forth about an inch above your skin. You can expect to return to normal daily activities with the use of sunscreen for any outdoor activities.

How many treatments will I need?

The initial results are often subtle. On average, you may require four to six IPL treatments to achieve the best results. The doctor will discuss the end point of your treatment and the timeline of what to expect.

What are the possible side effects?

Although most patients report few if any side effects, the most common is slight redness that disappears within a few hours after the treatment. The doctor will discuss the benefits, risks and alternatives of the treatment with you beforehand.

What areas can be treated?

Laser Genesis Skin Rejuvenation is most effective on the face and neck. Additionally, it is routinely used in the plastic surgery branch of our practice to treat scars on other parts of the body to reduce redness and speed the overall recovery time from scars.

What is diffuse redness?

Diffuse redness is a general appearance of facial redness similar to those described as having rosy cheeks. This condition is caused by dilated capillaries, resulting in an appearance of general redness. The most commonly affected areas are the nose, cheeks, and forehead. Diffuse redness of the cheeks is often associated with a condition called rosacea which may be either hereditary or sporadic. Laser Genesis therapy will help your appearance by gently treating the affected areas and reducing redness. Rosacea may also respond well to a combination of Laser Genesis therapy and our Intense Pulse Light therapy (IPL). The doctor will discuss the most appropriate therapy for you in this case.

Laser Skin Resurfacing

Laser skin resurfacing refers to application of laser pulsation for removal of wrinkles and skin problems, such as acne scars. The likely candidates for this type of treatment have wrinkles around the mouth and eyes, acne scars, or other skin irregularities. What laser skin resurfacing does is stimulate the growth of fresh, healthy cells and collagen to improve the clarity and texture of the skin. At the Renaissance Laser and Vein Clinic, our clients have loved the results from our laser skin resurfacing.

By stimulating the production of new collagen and cells, laser skin resurfacing makes the skin smoother and tighter, and diminishes the appearance of wrinkles, lines, skin discoloration, scars, and other imperfections. The recovery period varies depending on the size of the area to be treated, type of laser, and the severity of the problem. Shorter laser skin resurfacing treatments can take as little as fifteen minutes, with longer procedures nearing the hour mark.

Since it is a medical procedure, laser skin resurfacing is not without risks. Improper laser intensity and excessive exposure can permanently harm skin. As such, it’s important to find skilled doctors to perform the procedure, like our talented team at the Renaissance Laser and Vein Institute. We welcome patients to schedule a consultation with us to determine the type of laser skin resurfacing treatment needed and the estimated time frame for recovery and results.

Photofacial Thousand Oaks

Photofacials in Thousand Oaks are a popular way to treat redness, acne scarring, pigmentation and broken blood vessels in the face. For Thousand Oaks residents who are experiencing uneven skin tone due to hyperpigmentation or old acne scars, having a photofacial is a terrific way to address all of these niggling problems in one quick, easy and convenient treatment. At the Renaissance Laser and Vein Institute in Thousand Oaks, our photofacials last from ten to twenty minutes, enabling our patients to return to their daily lives immediately following treatment. We have found that having regular photofacials is a great way for our Thousand Oaks patients to keep their skin glowing, fresh, even toned and beautiful throughout the year with minimal investment and upkeep.

After a photofacial in Thousand Oaks office, the only side effect experienced by some patients is a very mild redness and or tingling sensation that can be likened to the feeling of a mild sunburn. With cool air (in an air conditioned environment), our patients notice that the feeling quickly subsides within twenty minutes to half an hour. The photofacial side effects clear up so quickly that many of our Thousand Oaks patients schedule their photofacial treatment during their lunch break and return to work immediately after, just adding a bit of foundation or concealer to mask the redness until it fades on its own. In order to achieve maximum skin results with photofacials, it is recommended that a patient receive at least three to five treatments for substantial, lasting results.
