Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT)

When a blood clot forms in a deep vein inside our body, it causes deep vein thrombosis or (DVT).  The clot blocks the vein, preventing blood from properly circulating in your body. A DVT in a vein of the legs is commonly treated with close observation, compression therapy and anti-coagulants prescribed by our experienced vascular surgeon, Dr. Gholam Mohammad-Zadeh.  The most serious complication of DVT happens when a blood clot breaks free and travels through the bloodstream to the lungs, causing a blockage called Pulmonary Embolism (PE).  In some cases, a DVT can be fatal.  For this reason, if you think you have one, you must see a doctor right away.
