Sclerotherapy

Sclerotherapy is a procedure designed to improve the appearance of Spider Veins. It involves injecting a chemical solution called a sclerosant into the spider vein which damages the internal lining of the vein, stopping the blood flow. As a result, the vein fades. Healing time can vary. Multiple treatments are needed to achieve desirable results. These treatments are highly tolerable. Sclerotherapy is particularly effective for spider veins offering cosmetic improvements. The simplicity and minimally invasive nature of Sclerotherapy makes it a preferred option for patients seeking a straightforward approach to vein removal.

SAY GOODBYE TO SPIDER VEINS

Renaissance Laser & Vein Institute offers top-quality care for patients bothered by Spider Veins. We understand the embarrassment that visible veins can cause and are committed to providing the utmost quality of care.

Most cases of spider veins are usually a cosmetic issue; leaving them untreated is not associated with significant risks. Leaving Varicose Veins untreated can, in some cases, increase the risk of problems with blood clots, ulcers and changes in the skin.

Typically, two to three treatments are necessary to achieve desirable results. The vein closes permanently and fades away. These treatments are easy and highly tolerable. Sclerotherapy is not painful.  Patients have described feeling mild discomfort and itching, but not pain.

We will recommend the use of compression stockings after Sclerotherapy.  Heat and sunlight should be avoided.  Hot compresses, hot showers, or baths should not be used for at least 48 hours following the procedure.

Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should postpone sclerotherapy.

Most side effects that may occur after Sclerotherapy are mild and last only a short time. These may include itching and swelling around the injection sites. Bruising may also occur and will fade over several days or weeks.

Patients can expect to see improvement in smaller veins in three to six weeks, and three to four months in larger veins.

Patients benefit from no longer feeling embarrassed about covering up their bodies, allowing them to confidently showcase their legs. Sue Ann Ferraro, Nurse Practitioner, is highly skilled in performing sclerotherapy treatment and has an excellent track record of success. The outcome is beautifully even toned skin free from unsightly spider veins.
